Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar founded in 2008, also known as IIT Gandhinagar is a public engineering institution located in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India. It has been declared to be an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India.
Academic Programmes in IIT Gandhinagar
B.Tech Programme
IIT Gandhinagar offers 4-year B.Tech. programme in six Engineering disciplines. These are:
- Chemical
- Civil
- Computer Science & Engineering
- Electrical
- Mechanical
- Materials Science & Engineering
The admission to the B.Tech programmes is offered through
JEE (Advanced).
Dual Major B. Tech Programme
This programme enables students enrolled in the BTech programme to complete a second major in any other engineering discipline of their interest. For example, a student admitted to Chemical Engineering can opt for a second major in any one of Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Materials Science & Engineering.
Students enrolled in this programme will have to complete all the compulsory courses as defined by the second discipline in addition to the minimum credit requirement of their parent discipline. On successful completion, a BTech degree mentioning both majors is awarded.
Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering
IIT Gandhinagar also offers an option of a post-graduate diploma in engineering (PGDIIT). This is a one year programme designed to be an intensive course-work based programme with no thesis or research requirements. The coursework requirements and the application procedure for the PGDIIT programme are the same as for the MTech programme, however, the PGDIIT programme is only for one year and does not have any research credit requirements. Currently PGDIIT is offered in the following disciplines:

MTech Programme
IIT Gandhinagar offers M.Tech. programmes in Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Earth System Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science & Engineering. The M.Tech. curriculum at IIT Gandhinagar has been designed to be highly creative with a focus on interdisciplinary skills and high quality thesis work. Admission is offered on the basis of
GATEPh. D.
One needs to secure atleast 55% in M.A./M.Sc./B.Tech./M.Tech. programmes in appropriate branches pursue Phd in respective field. Currently, IIT Gandhinagar offers Ph.D. programmes in Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Cognitive Science, Computer Science and Engineering, Earth Sciences, Electrical Engineering, History, Language & Literature, Materials Science and Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Social Epidemiology and Sociology.
